It is right that the Prime Minister resigned today. The law breaking, and multiple scandals made his position untenable. I believe he is unfit to govern and should leave office immediately.
I called for his resignation on the 8th December 2021 after Partygate revelations, and his reluctance to resign until today has meant that the Government has been distracted from running the country including dealing with the cost of living emergency.
The Conservative Party over the past 12 years has divided our country, damaged our economy, depleted our public services and destroyed trust in Government.
Conservative MPs should be utterly ashamed of their actions over the past 48 hours. Once again, they put infighting above the national interest and caused serious long term damage to integrity and trust in our democracy. Their behaviour showed the true level of entitlement and contempt they have for the people.
We need to restore integrity and trust in Government. We now need a new Government and that means a proper change.
